Garbine Muguruza was born on 8 October 1993. She is a Spanish tennis player who has won eight singles championships since becoming professional in 2012. These include two majors, namely the 2016 Roland Garros and the 2017 Wimbledon. 

Moreover, she has a career-high singles rating of world No. 1 and a career-high doubles ranking of world No. 10. Her biggest breakthrough so far is in 2014, after beating the former No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki.

Tennis Influences

Like many tennis superstars, Garbine started playing tennis before going to her first school day. Growing up, her biggest childhood heroes were Serena Williams and Pete Sampras, and she idolized them from the young age of 3. Regarding her current tennis standing, Muguruza plays a hard-hitting, all-court game.

Moreover, her serve is strong, reaching speeds of up to 182 km/h, allowing her to serve multiple aces in a single match, yet her serve is erratic, resulting in a high percentage of double faults. 

While being taught and influenced by Conchita Martinez, she began to use slicing and topspin to her serve, reducing double faults and preventing opponents from earning free points off her second serve.

Muguruza loves to frequently soothe herself with other activities in addition to tennis, so she often cooks, reads, and listens to music at home. Regarding her private life, Garbine was born to a Venezuelan mother and a Spanish father. She has two elder brothers named Igor and Asier. She also holds dual Spanish-Venezuelan citizenship.
