About Roberto Carballes Baena

This Spanish tennis player began playing this sport at the age of 3. He played the game as a pass time with his parents. However, it slowly turned into a passion that led young Roberto to choose tennis as a career. His excellence in tennis showed at a very young age. Due to this, he reached a ranking of No. 8 in his junior career. He also grabbed Roland Garros boys’ double title in 2011, along with his mate Artunedo Martinavarro.

During his first ATP World Tour, he achieved victory over David Goffin at the Casablanca Open in 2014. However, he could not even make it to the quarterfinals. However, it was only in 2018, he was able to grab his first ATP title at Ecuador Open Quito. He won this title by beating Albert Ramos Vinolas, another professional tennis ace.

This made him the first Spanish qualifier to grab the title after Almagro in the Valencia Open of 2006. He was 24 while receiving this title, making him the youngest Spanish champion after Nadal.

His career-high ATP ranking in the world was 72 in 2018. This is the only ATP title he could win till now. However, he holds 17 ITF singles titles. It is worth noting that his awesome performance was against Denis Shapovalov, the then world No. 11, during the 2020 French Open. He won against Denis but retired against Grigor Dimitrov in the next round.

Roberto also admires football game dearly. If it wasn’t for tennis, he would have chosen football as his preferred sports career.
